I always encourage my students to practice at home. However, it can be hard to practice if you don't know what to work on. Below I have listed my common corrections for each exercise in pre-primary.

Warm up:

-Teacher choreographed so not applicable

Legs and feet:

-make sure your back is straight, your feet pointed, legs are together, and arms are out straight with just your fingertips touching the ground

-when you slide your feet back out for the repeat make sure your legs are still together and your feet are pointed

Fingers and hands:

-make sure your back is straight and arms are out straight with just your fingertips touching the ground at the beginning

-when you bring either hand in your arm should be rounded with your elbow parallel to the ground (your arm should make a smiley face or c shape)

-when moving your arms make sure you make smooth and graceful movements

Walks:

-Teacher choreographed so not applicable

Run and balance:

-When you run, you should be running on your tippy toes

-When you are balancing or hopping, the side of your foot should be touching the side of your knee

Bounce and jump:

-Make sure you bend your knees and swing your arms at the same time

-When you land your jump and shake your hands, your knees should be bent

Bend and spin:

-Make sure when you spin, you are staying in one spot

Claps and jumps:

-Often little pre-primaries like to jump a little too fast. Make sure you are jumping with the rhythm (1 hold, 2 hold, 3 out in)

-When other dancers are jumping, don't forget to clap the rhythm

Picked up gallops:

-Make sure your gallop doesn't turn into a skip

Skips:

-Make sure your feet come up all the way to your knees

Imaginative dance:

-Make sure you do big facial expressions

*Teacher choreographed

Cool down:

-Make sure the insides of your heels are facing the front and your feet around pointed

-Don't forget to say thank you!

To parents and students, if you don't do all these exercises in class that is because you are only required to show Warm up, cool down, the imaginative dance, and 7 out of the 9 other exercises. I try to decide as early as possible what exercises should be demonstrated in the exam so if there are some exercises that you can't remember doing that's ok as we likely haven't done them since October.
