Below is a few of my tips to take those corrections you get in class and use them in your practice time to achieve your goals.
First, try not take the corrections too hard. Instead, think of them as one of the ways your teacher is showing they care. We don't give corrections because we want to put you down, we give you corrections because we are invested in you and want to see you achieve your goals. (note: how your teacher gives you corrections also matters, they should still be respectful and of course constructive. For example, if your teacher says your dancing is too boring- that's not helpful, it's just mean. A constructive correction would be something like "when you jump you tend to lean forwards when you land, try to think about keeping your body straight or imagine you are balancing something on your head")
Try not to overwhelmed or frustrated about your teachers giving you what seems like an endless amount of corrections. The reality is, we are probably never going to stop giving corrections- this can feel frustrating and tiring because it can start to make you feel like you are just never good enough. This isn't true, in my opinion, perfect doesn't exist and if it did life might feel a little boring. Our goal as teachers is to always keep challenging you to improve so that your potential is endless.
Try your vest to remember the corrections you get in class- maybe bring a notebook to class to write short notes during class or right after your class is done when the corrections are fresh in your mind.
When practicing your corrections at home, try to find a full size mirror or try to film yourself and watch the video after you've done the exercise once then try to add any corrections, then try filming yourself again to see if you can apply them under pressure.
If you keep making the same mistake, take a break and try to figure out why you are making that mistake and how you could fix it.
Finally, if you make the same mistake four times and on the fifth time you get it right, your work isn't finished. You have still practiced the exercise incorrectly 80% of the time and correctly only 20% of the time. To really fix your mistakes you need to practice until you have done it correctly more times than incorrectly. For example- 4 incorrect, 1 correct= 5-7 more times correctly.
